Florida tourists Tylor and Emerald Hindery were on a tour boat in the swamps of Florida
The wind pushed their boat inches from a large gator sunning on a bank
In a flash, the gator ran onto their boat and got stuck in the metal bars of the railing
He managed to slither through and re-enter the water
The heart-stopping moment was caught on video
A vacationing couple were excited to get up close and personal with a Florida alligator, until the creature got much more personal than they were expecting.
The pair, Tylor and Emerald Hindery from Springfield, Missouri, decided to take a trip to the swamp lands of Florida so they could glimpse a real gator up close.
When the wind blew their small tour boat up against the bank of the shore, where a big gator happened to be sunning, Tylor whipped out his phone and began recording it on Facebook Live.
The alligator was spotted casually sunning himself on the muddy bank of the Florida swamp (left) and then suddenly darted onto the boat (right)
The alligator scurried to the other side of the boat and tried to dive off in between the railing
The tour guide teased Tylor that they were so close to the gator, he could reach out and slap him. ‘If I wanted to,’ Tylor replied, warily.
‘Are you nervous?’ the tour guide asked.
‘Yeah,’ Tylor laughed.
Then in a flash the creature turned and was scudding across their boat with lightning speed as the humans screamed for their lives.
When the gator got to the other side of the boat and tried to jump over the edge back into the water, he briefly got stuck between the metal bars of the railing.
To the immense relief of all on board, he finally slithered through the gap and splashed into the swamp.
Married couple Tylor and Emerald Hindery managed to catch the once-in-a-lifetime moment on Facebook
The couple, as well as another pair on the boat, were horrified and yet elated with their close encounter of the alligator kind.
‘It was like this isn’t real life right now,’ Tylor told KY3 he was thinking as the at least six-foot long gator crashed the boat.
Since the unexpected encounter was live streamed over Facebook, the couple’s friends and family got the scare of their lives as well.
”I thought I was going to get to see the end of my brother,” Emerald told the outlet that Tylor’s sister said. ‘Like she was excited – obviously she was joking.’
After the gator slipped off the side of the boat and the tourists all had a relieved laugh, Tylor says he went back to filming.
‘Oh my goodness, I’m still alive let’s film the again,’ he said.
Emerald, however, wants to keep their future trips less on the wild side.
‘We’ll just plateau right at this one and maybe a little tamer trips from now,’ she said.
They said their friends began coming up with names for the gator – one of them was, appropriately, ‘Speedy.’
