Despite ending up on the motorway, the sloth was unharmed after being rescued by officials
This was the moment a little sloth clung on for its life to a motorway crash barrier.
The creature refused to let go – as police attended to check its welfare.
The bizarre incident stopped traffic – and thankfully the little fella was unharmed.
Since it was posted on Facebook, more than 36,000 people have liked the post about the incident in Quevedo, Ecuador.
Writing on the social networking site, government organisation Comisión de Tránsito del Ecuador said: “We are grateful to all for your concern.
“Be advised, the sloth bear rescued by our unis was reviewed by a veterinarian, the same one that determined that I was in optimal conditions to be returning to their habitat.
“We are grateful to all those people who were interested in the health of the animal. We will continue to support this kind of cases along with the collaboration of citizenship. Greetings to all.”
Commenting on the rescue, one person said: “Their acts of kindness and solidarity towards the weak and innocent that have been made in his image will change radically, and in a positive way, their actions they pump me full of love and pride in their institution.
“Keep it going well with his example, create awareness and to raise awareness among the people.”
Sloths are medium-sized mammals which are native to the jungles of central and south America.
They are known for being slow-moving, hence the name, and unique expressions.
